Out-Of-State Temporary Permit
This permit
should be used by Out-Of-State Licensed Specialist
Clinical Social Workers who wish to provide
services in the State of Kansas or for the residents
of Kansas, for a limited amount of time. This
permit is found in Forms.

General
information
- There are
currently 41 Social Workers licensed at the
Associates level, 1972 at the Bachelors level,
2581 at the Masters level, and 1763 at the Clinical
Level in Kansas.

Basic
Licensure requirements
Licensed Bachelor Social Worker
- Bachelors degree in Social Work from a
CSWE accredited program or meets the requirements
of K.A.R. 102-2-6
- References completed on Board provided forms
from at least 2 social workers licensed at
or above the Bachelors level, and a third
reference from an on-site practicum supervisor
(merits public trust)
- Transcript showing degree granted
- Passing the Basic Level competency exam
The ASWB exam is offered daily once registered
with the BSRB.
These requirements are an overview of the requirements
for licensure at the Bachelors level. Please refer
to the regulations for additional clarifying information.
Licensed Master Social Worker
- Masters degree In Social Work from an
CSWE accredited program or meets the requirements
of K.A.R. 102-2-6
- References completed on Board provided forms
from at least 2 social workers licensed at
or above the Masters level, and a third reference
from an on-site practicum supervisor (merits
public trust)
- Transcript showing degree granted
- Passing the Intermediate competency exam
The ASWB exam is offered daily once registered
with the BSRB.
These requirements are an overview of the requirements
for licensure at the Masters level. Please refer
to the regulations for additional clarifying
information.
Licensed Specialist Clinical Social
Worker
- Masters degree in Social Work
- References completed on Board provided forms
from at least 2 social workers licensed at
or above the Clinical level, and a third reference
from a work supervisor (merits public trust)
- Transcript showing degree granted
- 4000 hours of post-graduate supervised clinical
work experience in a clinical setting with
supervisor’s attestation.
- Passing the Clinical competency exam
The ASWB exam is offered daily once registered
with the BSRB.

Application packets can be downloaded at no
charge go to "Forms"
under the topics list in Social Work.
There is a $10 fee for application packets
to be mailed to you. You may request the packets
through the Board Office in writing.
Please be specific which packet you are requesting
in your letter.

Renewal
information
- Renew
On-Line
You will be required to pay your renewal fee
by credit card. If you have any technical difficulties
please contact Kansas.gov at 1-800-452-6727.
Licenses are issued for a 2-year period, and
expire on the last day of the month. Renewal
notices are sent to the last address on file
with the Board, and are sent approximately 90
days prior to expiration of the license.
Renewals will not be processed prior to 90
days of the license expiration date. The
notices are a courtesy to licensees, but the
responsibility to renew licenses on time remains
with the licensee.
All renewals
require 40 hours of continuing education, inclusive of 3 hours of ethics and for masters and clinical levels, 6 hours of diagnosis and treatment, earned
in the 2 years preceding renewal expiration date.
